Armed with Google Earth Maps we set off in search of some of the best pavement the Okanagan has to offer. We were not disappointed.
Finally after a looong winter up in Canada the deep freeze is over, and that only means one thing. It's time for the SOS trip. The SOS trip or Spring Okanagan Skate is an annual longboard event that is held in the interior of beautiful British Columbia. Although not an "official" event, it is officially the most chill way to start off the year. Riders from all over Canada gather together for a weekend of skating on some of the best roads, before they get busy with the summer season.
"How did you find these roads?".... "Hours of putting in work on Google Maps, and a hunger for getting gnarly."-Torry Horrigan
Fuck Yeah Friday
This year a group of us from Parktek decided to head out a little early and get an extra day of skating in. We drove all night Thursday from Calgary so that we could be in the Okanagan for Friday morning. After a quick stop from a few hours of sleep, longboards were set up and we were back on the road. Torry had spent many hours this winter going through Google maps scoping out the best roads. Armed with this we made our way toward Salmon Arm and what turned out to be a mecca of untouched pavement.
Nestled in the hills behind the town, a future real estate development sat empty, aside from a road leading down the hill from top to bottom. With the gate unlocked and unguarded, we took full advantage of the opportunity of this longboard playground.
